Ascension’s Farm Share Ministry

MRS. BARBARA KILLEN - TEAM LEADER

Jesus said to St Peter, “Feed my people.”

Whoever has a bountiful eye will be blessed, for he shares his bread with the poor.(Proverbs 22:0)

Farm Share is an agency of the US Dept. of Agriculture (USDA). It is subsidized by the Federal Govt. and essentially gets the excess, raw and processed food, from USA agricultural farm and processing plants and re-distributes them, through sub-agencies, to the needy in local communities around the country.

The Church of the Ascension has been a sub-agency for this area since 1996 when a few members of the Affirmative Aging Ministry established it.

The produce is received on the 2nd Monday of each month and, after sorting and storing, is distributed to the public the next day (2nd Tuesday).

The Ascension Farm Share team keeps the records and provides the manpower to collect and distribute the produce.

Supplying food for the needy is a very fulfilling activity. Jesus said to St Peter, “Feed my people”. There is always room for new volunteers in this ministry.
